Wilderness First Aid Class

Postby Moji » Thu Nov 06, 2008 9:55 am

a friend of mine is putting together a class for his business and may offer the class to others. There may be a good discount off the regular price of $160 for two days and certificate. There is also a lesser charge for one day no certificate. class is offered Dec 2 and 3, monday and tuesday out at Pt Reyes.

Post up here if interested in joining or PM me.

Eric: go to the regular EMT class at SRJC, the designation Wilderness EMT does not provide a license unless the training agency is accredited to do so at the state level. The regular EMT cert gives you a license to work anywhere. The Wilderness EMT cannot work in an urban environment, meaning it's only a certificate given by the training company that provides it.

Wilderness Medicine ( spin from NOLS) was offering the WEMT but it was not accredited in CA. With your outdoor experience and a regular Paramedic or EMT license you're way good.

Thanks Mo.

I've been an EMT since 1996. Looking for a class that would take that skill level in to the back country/ focus on long term care. Basic EMT is short term pre hospital.

Not sure I want to be a Paramedic. Lots of money and time.

Moji, did you end up going?

I wanted to go but needed to work.

I really need to take a class like this.

South Lake Tahoe Community College is offering several very cheap Avalanche certifications and I think wilderness first aid classes.

they do offer that but get on it quick or they fill up fast

there are avalanche classes out there called avalanche awareness, some of which offer a really good program without the certification. I really want the certificate but I'll post up when I find one of those..

also that outdoor group from UC Berkeley CHAOS offers some classes to their group and the public. WFR and WFA I'm referring to.

noticed it's cold..at least.
