AVI CLASS LEVEL ONE

Postby Moji » Thu Sep 25, 2008 11:40 am

I HAVE to take an avi level one cert class this year. We've talked about having one for RIM members as most of us could use it.

Please post up here if you are interested in attending a class this year for avalanche safety. When I get back I want to pull one together or just sign up for one on my own. In our area we have to wait until Jan or Feb for enough snow. If RIM does it I will look for big discounts. Chisolm I bet you are in for this. Alex?

I'm interested. Jan/Feb is relatively slow for me business wise, so I could probably make any date with a little notice.

Interested, but would need lots of advance notice to sync it with my work travel schedule.

well there's no damn snow... hence no class

but lots are scheduled. I even found a class that offers the course work part of the cert online and then two to three days of field. Avi class with the cert costs $300 to $400, but I've found plenty of $350 classes.

now we have to talk to a guy we know who may do one for us.. Actually we might be able to get him to do a show for us unless we are booked up.

more later.. I"m requesting a break on the cost from several outfits since we can provide so many people.

Anytime between Christmas and New Years would be great. Jan 12-16 do not work at all. Any other time I could squeeze it in.

check into South Lake Tahoe Community College. They offer cheap avalanche certs.

Thinking of taking the level 2 they offer.

Hey guys, Check this out: http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/threa ... _id=762400

Chisholm, as the new Activities Committee Director, do you want to look into what it would take to have Aaron come do a class for RIM Members? I wonder if they have a minimum # of participants to make it worthwhile.

I called him last year.. at that time he wanted to charge $20 per person for an intro slide show type of class.. avi awareness.
I asked him by email recently if he would offer us a class with a minimum but he was booked until Feb. this was before the weather became obvious. have you seen his website? He operates up there where the Bear Valley Tele Ski Weekend workshop is going to be.. same group of people although he is not connected to the ski area per se. He's a climbing guide.

Hey guys, Yesteday I skied with the Pinecrest Nordic Ski Patrol and learned that next weekend there is an Avi 1 class at Pinecrest. The cost? $65.00!!! No joke. This includes the cert. Look on the education page here.

http://www.pinecrestnordic.org/index.php

Who wants to go? There is free lodging for us at the facility, or at my moms house just down the hill (with a nice hot tub).

btw, there will be crazy avi conditions after the next snow fall. Ice layer with rotten snow beneath right now. So an interesting time to take a class.
